Nurul Islam Laskar Conferred Shahidul Alom Choudhury Memorial Award

GUWAHATI: The Minority Welfare Society (MWS), Guwahati, held its 28th Annual General Meeting on Sunday, drawing a gathering of over 400 attendees. A highlight of the event was the presentation of the prestigious Shahidul Alom Choudhury Memorial Award to renowned public relations practitioner and motivational speaker Nurul Islam Laskar.

The award, instituted in 2014 in memory of former Assam minister Shahidul Alom Choudhury, recognizes individuals for outstanding contributions to society, especially in the fields of public relations, literature, journalism, and social service. Laskar’s multifaceted service earned him this year’s honor, joining the ranks of past recipients like Hafiz Rashid Ahmed Choudhury, Ali Haidar Laskar, Dr. KM Baharul Islam, and Dr. Hifzur R Siddiqui.

Following the award ceremony, the Society’s annual journal, Barak, was unveiled by former Additional Commissioner of Taxes Mukthar Hussain Ahmed Choudhury and Barak editor Sultan Uddin Ahmed.

The daylong program also featured a range of children’s competitions, with prizes distributed by Joint Secretaries Monzoor Ahmed Barbhuiya and Mashuk Ahmad Laskar. The business sessions saw the presentation of the annual report (2024–2025) by General Secretary Abdul Karim Choudhury and the formation of a new executive committee led by President Abdul Waris Choudhury and General Secretary Abdul Karim Choudhury.
