Scholars recall London experiences at SONEI event in Guwahati
Guwahati, September 7, 2022: ‘Star Talk-14’, an initiative of the Stars of North East India (SONEI), a registered public charitable trust and talent hunt platform, was held in Guwahati on Tuesday. SONEI, which completes eight years of its impactful existence this month, plans to launch new projects in the field of education, promotion of skills, and service to society by mobilising the youth in the near future. This was stated by Maryam Zameela, social development practitioner, who anchored the event and ably moderated the interactive discourse that followed.
Representing Admissify, abroad education experts, Suaid M Laskar, the company’s Head of pan India sales and admissions, let the audience know that Admissify has been instrumental in facilitating overseas studies of more than 350 students from Assam, over the last five years, to study in countries like Australia, Germany, UK and USA. He said that 93 per cent of the students who go abroad for studies belong to middle class families.
The three speakers of the ‘London Calling’ event were Gulzar Hussain, Intibah Murtafi, and Sabur Tapader. Gulzar obtained his first masters from AMU and is pursuing his second masters at London School of Economics. Intibah Murtafi and Sabur Tapader are completing their masters from University College of London and University of East London respectively.
Sabur Tapader said, “London is one of the best destinations for legal training. The modular object-oriented delivery learning and engagement was an enthralling approach towards engaging in the curriculum at my university, driven by able professors.” Gulzar Hussain, who joined online in the programme, was of the opinion that one gets an opportunity to upgrade oneself while experiencing different cultures, ideas, languages living in a city like London. Intibah Murtafi dwelt upon the process of university selection and how a personal touch, like
mailing the programme coordinator can help in making a student-experience memorable. Manas Deuri, Shabnam Sultana, and Iftikar Hussain Siddique were among those who took active part in the interactive session that followed.
Nazneen Zaffar of Assam, accomplished tennis player and administrator, who recently led the Indian women’s team at the ITF World Tennis Masters Tour Portugal 2022 world championships, was felicitated by SONEI on the occasion. Shayesta Kibriya conducted a lucky draw for the audience while Babiba Sultana offered the vote of thanks. The event was hosted by Samima Sultana Ali and Sharique Hussain, and sponsored by Admissify.
